Turkeys, Turnovers and Gridiron Shockers

It’s Thanksgiving week, which means the middle of the NFL campaign while winding down the college football regular season. Late season college football means heated races for conference titles and bowl berths, plus rivalries that span decades. These games can have far more importance for players than September/October clashes. Oklahoma/Ok-State, USC/UCLA, Florida/Florida State, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Michigan/Ohio State and Auburn/Alabama bring out extra intensity and emotion....

Replacement Refs

Found this on an internet message board.  Enjoy!

"Am I the only one who likes the replacement refs? The last 2 games I've watched (Baltimore/New England, Seattle/Green Bay) have been the most bumblingly hilarious entertaining comedy shows I've seen in many a season. It adds a whole new variable that you have to account for, which is that the people in charge of regulating the game have no idea what the rules are, how to enforce them, or control what's going on the field in any way. Maybe this harms the "integrity of the game" (or other such meaningless cliche ESPN commentator nonsense that no one should really care about), but it's entertaining as hell! The players damn near brawl after every play which just enhances it. From a purely comedic perspective, this is the best thing that's happened to the league in a while. I'm not saying they should keep them forever (obviously!), but this is the most interesting NFL football I've watched in a while."

NFL Bye Week Strategy

The NFL bye week is a factor many recreational gamblers don’t pay enough attention to. If you consider yourself a novice sports bettor, and you spot the type of betting line that has you quickly heading to Sporting News and your favorite sports stat site to see if a player is injured, don’t forget to also notice if that team’s opponent is coming off a bye. For those advanced sports bettors struggling with the bye week, I’ll cover some higher level research and insights about the bye in this article. Before getting to that, I’ll address some general points for anyone not sure what to make of the bye week, or on which weeks teams have byes...

Catching the Early Lines

by Bryan Leonard
Living in Las Vegas the last 15 years and being in the Sports Betting Industry for 30, you learn what to do right. You also learn from your faults. A mistake many sports bettors make is waiting to the last minute to place their wagers. I’m not referring to the guys who call up their local book ten minutes before the games go off. Those guys are playing into a single line at a finite time. I’m talking about the professional bettor who’s bankroll lives and dies on correct decisions. Not only picking the right side of a game, but at what number to play it at, and when to place the wager. Is this the best line I will find? Will all the competing professionals be on the same side? In the case of the NFL, will the general public move this line? And if so, should I beat them to the number or wait for them to move it where I can pounce? These are all questions everyone I know who bets for a living asks themselves each day of the week....

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like " I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive....." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" Then it was quiet again. My attorney had taken his shirt off and was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. "What the hell are you yelling about?" He muttered, staring up at the sun  with his eyes closed and covered with wraparound spanish sunglasses. "Never mind," I said. "It's your turn to drive." I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough ! "Man, this is the way to travel!" said my attorney. He leaned over to turn the volume up on the radio, humming along with the rhythm section and kind of moaning the words: "One toke over the line sweet jesus ......One toke over the line......."  One toke? You poor fool! Wait til you see those Goddamn bats!
